Deepak Srivastava, M.D., will give the Thirteenth Annual Mavis P. Kelsey Lecture at the Institute of Biosciences and Technology on December 19, 2008. He will speak on microRNA Regulation of Cardiac Stem Cells and Cardiac Morphogenesis.
Dr. Srivastava is the director of the Gladstone Institute of Cardiovascular Disease and holds the Wilma and Adeline Pirag Distinguished Professorship in Pediatrics at the University of San Francisco. Besides caring for patients at UCSF Children's Hospital, he has made extraordinary contributions to understanding early heart development, its genetic regulation by transcriptional factors and by microRNAs, and to stem cell biology.
This lecture series was begun in 1996 to bring renowned scientists to the Texas Medical Center to address research topics before Houston's medical and scientific communities. The series honors Dr. Mavis P. Kelsey, Sr., famous Houston physician, author and philanthropist. |
